Sometimes, it can feel like there are few things worse than an iPhone or Android that suddenly begins slowing down on you.
If your smartphone has been running slower than usual, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s malfunctioning. In fact, certain apps could be to blame. Many apps continue working in the background even when you’re not using them, taking up resources and affecting your phone’s performance. Tech experts say a few common apps can use more power and memory than you might realize. Read more about two of them below.

1. Facebook
Facebook is known for using a lot of background activity, as it's constantly refreshing content, gathering notifications, sometimes tracking your location, and more. This can use up memory, extra power, and battery life, even when you're not actively scrolling through it.
"Facebook usually drains the battery significantly in the background," says tech pro Steven Athwal. "It constantly refreshes notifications, syncs messages, and preloads content, even when you're not using it. Additionally, it monitors your location and network activities, which keeps your phone's processor and network busy. This ongoing usage can eventually drain your battery life."
2. Weather Apps
Weather apps are essential for many phones, but it's ideal to only have one on your phone instead of two or three. This is because they consistently need to have updates on your location's weather, and therefore, are using a lot of power and memory to do so.
"Weather widgets or services typically update in the background by fetching information in real-time," adds Athwal. "Each update uses data, checks your location, and refreshes your widget on the screen. While these updates seem small, they can collectively impact your battery over the course of a day."
