The highly-anticipated trailer for the Wicked movie, which hits theaters on Thanksgiving this year, has finally been released – and to say there were mixed reactions on social media would be a huge understatement!
While fans of the hit Broadway musical were undoubtedly beside themselves with excitement for the long-awaited trailer for the movie, there were mixed reactions to Ariana Grande‘s appearance. Ariana plays the role of Glinda in the movie, which some people didn’t think was an accurate representation of the character first played by Kristin Chenoweth in 2003.

Ariana Grande’s Appearance Criticized In ‘Wicked’ Trailer
The 30-year-old “7 Rings” singer has received a lot of negative attention over the past year, not only for her controversial relationship with Ethan Slater, who plays the part of munchkin Boq in the movie, but also for her frail looking appearance.
The “Dangerous Woman” hitmaker has continued to face backlash on social media, even after telling fans not to concern themselves with her love life or her body; and the comments section of an Instagram post featuring the Wicked trailer was no exception.
“It’s distracting how sick and frail Ariana looks. Why would Glinda look like she’s starving to death,” wrote one person in the comments section to a February 12th Pop Culture Instagram post of the trailer. “It’s not even just her body, it’s her entire appearance,” they continued, adding: “Sorry I can’t pretend that she doesn’t look like she’s about to literally starve to death. It really looks like an intentional choice for the character, which makes no sense bc there’s no reason for Glinda to look so sickly.”
“Again I don’t care what she looks like as a person. As a character, it’s distracting for Glinda to look like she’s on the brink of death,” the same user criticized. “This movie is way bigger than Ariana so please you little Ariana stans need to get over yourselves. They should’ve cast someone else bc it makes no sense for Glinda to look like that,” they added.

Ariana Grande’s Fans Come To Her Defense
As expected, not everyone felt the same way, as many fans came to the R.E.M. Beauty mogul‘s defense. One fan posted a short clip of the singer, dressed as Glinda in a stunning white ballgown and veil, with the caption: “This is the best Ariana Grande has ever looked.”
“My Glinda. Love her. My heart,” commented one fan, followed by three red heart emojis. “Well yeah now she’s also my favorite movie character,” wrote another fan. I’m telling you girl I got butterflies,” the fan wrote in a separate comment. “I’m actually sobbing. Her hard work paid off omg I’m so proud of her,” gushed another, as someone else said: “I’m legit so excited and happy for her I cannot contain my emotions.”
“My Glinda is so beautiful,” complimented another fan. “Our beautiful witch,” agreed another, as someone else wrote: “Ariana Grande in this video is magnificent.” “Mother,” commented another fan. “She’s gonna look so good on the silver screen, in a mature role,” speculated another fan.
