Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are the couple we never knew we needed this year! Although they are 2021 couple goals and appear to be living their best lives right now, things weren’t always so peachy with the former exes who initially dated between 2000 and 2004! If you always wanted to know more details about their widely-publicized split and why they called off their engagement just days before their wedding in 2004 then you’re in luck, as the 49-year-old The Last Duel actor just revealed the real reason for them going their separate ways 17 years ago!
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on Monday, December 13th – where he also made some controversial comments about ex-wife Jennifer Garner being one of the causes of his alcoholism (*what was he thinking?!*) – the Argo director also went into detail about his and J-Lo’s 2004 split. And it’s actually quite heart-breaking!
The Tender Bar star noted that the media attention his relationship with the 52-year-old singer and actress received was very tough to deal with the whole time they were together – and ultimately, that was a huge contributing factor in their separation! "I would say media attention was about 50 percent of what destroyed our relationship," Affleck said.
"The idea that people hate you and they hate you together and that being together is poison and ugly and toxic and the thing none of us want to be part of," he continued. "And 'who the *expletive* would want to have them to dinner?' And 'what the *expletive* are they doing together?'" He then finished off talking about his and J-Lo's past by confirming that the "On My Way" singer was the one who ended things, which left him feeling foolish and broken. He said: "I got *expletive* hurt and angry and felt like a fool." Things seem better second time around! Will they make it down the aisle this time round? Only time will tell!
