Promising Review:

"i’ve tried the DE Marula oil (their entire line) and it totally messed up my face. I love that this oil is here because i can use it alone to detox my face from applying too many things. I have dry & oily skin VERY acne prone. I hate getting 1 or 2 so this has helped me maintain a very clear face , hydrated without breaking out and keeping it glowing. it’s thick and honey like so it doesn’t feel like i’m putting grease on my face. i’ll definitly be sticking with this for a very very long time. i’m excited to someday try their moisturizers. i love the honeymoon glow & cleanser so far!" - mariaemitchell

When Should I Use A Facial Oil?

Everyone's skincare routine is different, but dermatologists say that almost every skin type can benefit from using a brightening facial oil regardless of their concerns. Not only are they super effective ways to deliver more moisture, nourishment, and brightness to the skin, but they're also incredibly easy to incorporate into an existing skincare routine.

Facial oils are designed to seal in moisture, which is why it's recommended to apply a facial oil after your moisture to help lock in of the hydrating ingredients and make the skin more likely to hold onto. Dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe suggests mixing your facial oil into your moisturizer for added moisture. "I recommend mixing a few drops of oils with your regular moisturizer. If you apply oils first, then you will block the anti-aging ingredients in your moisturizer from penetrating into the skin," she warns.

If you have mature skin, Jeremy Brauer, MD, the clinical assistant professor of NYU's department of dermatology, says that you should apply a facial oil twice a day for lasting hydration. "Those with more mature skin can use it morning and night for daily hydration and nighttime repair," he explains, noting that those with younger skin can get away with only applying a facial oil at nighttime. "Using an oil in combination with your other skincare products can also help absorb these skin benefitting ingredients deeper into the lipid layer."

Facial oil can also work as an effective primer for foundation and other face makeup. When applied before makeup, a facial oil helps your products glide across the skin for a dewy, cake-free finish, preventing concerns like dryness and flakiness from ruining your glam. "Using a face oil as your makeup primer is also a great way to get flawless looking skin that stays hydrated throughout the day," Dr. Brauer adds. You can also use Dr. Bowe's mixing technique to enhance your foundation's radiance. Add a few drops into your favorite foundation to get that lit-from-within glow.
