Finding the perfect concealer for mature skin can be hard if you don’t know where to start. Your concealer should always enhance your complexion, not draw attention to the concerns that you’re trying to hide. Regardless of your skin type or skincare woes, makeup artists always suggest opting for a hydrating, full-coverage formula when choosing the best concealer to make you look younger. “Mature skin has more texture than younger skin,” explains makeup artist Fiona Stiles, who recommends using a face product that “melts into the skin” for a seamless look. “Anything too heavy will settle into lines and do the opposite of what you’re looking for.”

In fact, there’s a new foundation-concealer hybrid that needs to be on your radar–it’s Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer, a versatile 2-in-1 product that has a natural matte finish with medium coverage to deliver a flawless complexion.

What Does Concealer Do?

-Hides imperfections like blemishes, dark spots, and redness.

-Brightens the skin to reveal a more radiant and even complexion.

-Works as a temporary solution for dark circles and under-eye bags, fine lines and wrinkles, and discoloration.

Promising Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer Reviews From Sephora Shoppers:

"I absolutely love this foundation. It's the first foundation that matches my skin tone! I have tried 100's of foundations from $65.00 on down. The coverage is superb! I'm pushing 60 and have age spots unfortunately, however, this covers them all without adding layers. It looks so natural and does NOT enhance my wrinkles at all. This is NOT cakey or dry and feels soft on my skin. The price is right as well! I'm very happy!!!" - funigirl

"I don't wear heavy face makeup, and with the name "foundation and concealer" I was concerned when the Sephora associate recommended this product after I said I wanted light coverage. Once this product was on my face and was blended in, I was amazed. My complexion is completely even and the coverage is still light enough that I can see my freckles through. I have problems with most foundations breaking me out, but I've been using this for about 3 weeks now and no breakouts! I love this foundation." - Tarab730

"I was going through acne treatment which required some skin peeling and irritation, this foundation made my skin look FLAWLESS! You couldn't even tell that I had peeling or oily skin. ITS GREAT FOR DRY AND OILY SKIN!! I am absolutely in love! You do not need concealer with this foundation as it does what it claims to be "foundation & CONCEALER". I would definitely recommend this to those looking for a full coverage foundation to control oils and help with dry skin." - Falicia

How To Apply Concealer Over 40

1. Start With A Primer

If you're struggling to find the best way to apply concealer to hide fine lines, experts say that the first mistake you're making is that you're not using a primer. "Applying primer as a makeup base is the key to softening wrinkles,” Jaclyn Peresetsky, a makeup artist and co-owner of Skin Perfect Clinic in Ohio, tells WebMD

2. Only Apply Product Where It's Needed

Another mistake that most women over 40 make is applying concealer under the entire eye area. Instead, makeup artist Nick Barose says that it's best to only add product where you need coverage. "It’s not about using [concealer] to cover and getting rid of everything," he says. "It’s really about disguising certain things and enhancing other things.” Use your brush or fingertips to blend and push the concealer across the areas that you want to conceal, creating a more natural-looking coverage.

3. Always Finish With A Setting Powder

Mario Dedivanovic, a celebrity makeup artist that has worked with Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, and Shay Mitchell, always sets concealer with setting powder using the "sandbagging" technique. He uses a Beautyblender sponge to dab translucent loose setting powder over concealer, helping prevent caking and creasing. Dedivanovic suggests letting the powder sit for a while before pressing it in; he usually moves onto the eye area while the powder is setting.
