Carrie Underwood is no stranger to the spotlight, but some recent photos of the country singer have fans doing a double take for a different reason.

The American Idol judge recently stepped out for a special tribute to Dolly Parton, but it was her noticeably bronzed complexion and heavy makeup that got people talking online. As the pictures went viral, some social media users said she looked “unrecognizable,” while others compared her appearance to the much-discussed “Mar-A-Lago face” trend. Read more about her appearance at the tribute show below.

Carrie Underwood Attends Dolly Parton Tribute In Embellished Strapless Gown

The country star attended CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton on October 21st in Nashville, where a star-studded lineup of performers gathered to honor the legendary singer's life and career.

Carrie also took the stage to perform Parton's iconic song "I Will Always Love You," closing out the tribute with a performance that brought other artists onstage to join her.

For the event, the "Before He Cheats" singer wore a strapless, pale pink-and-white ballgown covered in intricate floral embroidery, colorful embellishments, and sparkling details. Her blonde hair was styled in loose waves over one shoulder, but it was her makeup that really caught some fans' attention. Her complexion was noticeably bronzed, suggesting a spray tan, while her rosy blush, defined eyes, and glossy pink lipstick created a dramatic, full-glam look.

Fans Say Carrie Underwood Looks 'Unrecognizable' With Heavy Makeup And Spray Tan

While the mom-of-two certainly dressed for the occasion, some fans weren't loving her beauty look. Social media users criticized what they viewed as an overly dark spray tan and heavy makeup, with some claiming the combination made the singer look almost unrecognizable in the recent photos.

Others took their criticism a step further by connecting her appearance to the viral "Mar-A-Lago face" trend, a term used online to describe a heavy, glamorized aesthetic associated with bronzed skin, bold makeup, and an artificial-looking finish. It was tied to the singer's decision to perform at Donald Trump's 2025 presidential inauguration and her alleged 'MAGA ties.'

"It would be nice to see her in a more natural look. But she always has double the makeup that one needs," commented a fan. "I really think she overdoes it on the Botox, especially her lips."

"Now she's all the Botox, spray tans that look horrible, and being artificial," a fan wrote. "It's so sad because I used to look up to her and like her. Now she's just like so many artificial artists, all artificial, so disappointed."

One user wrote that Carrie's got "that Mar-a-Lago face," as another commented, "Looks like the MAGAs all get their spray tans at the same place."

"Same tanning salon as her orange leader?" a user joked, with another describing her look as "beautiful but a little too heavy."
