We have to give credit where credit is due and that belongs to Mariah Carey who was the OG butterfly top trendsetter back in 2000. But we also have to give major credit to Dua Lipa, who brought the trend back in a major way in 2021. Dua wore one butterfly top after another last year—from this baby pink matching set, a denim version, and a gorgeous multi-colored one. We’re obsessed with all of them.

A more recent butterfly top convert is Vanessa Hudgens. The Coachella Queen took to Instagram on April 25th to show off hers. Captioned, “Butterfly top season last slide- when you see ur girlfriend and didn’t know she was gonna be there”—the brunette babe wowed us in her Area crystal-trimmed blue butterfly top at the iconic festival. Fans in the comments added that her look is “everything” and we couldn’t agree more.
We’re not surprised to see Vanessa in this nostalgic, boho trend and we’re here for it. We expect to see the butterfly top trend spreading its wings in the warmer months coming up.
