The Charging Mistake That Can Make Your iPhone Run Hot

In the tech world, it's well known that heat is an iPhone's worst enemy. It can cause lagging, and your phone may malfunction overall. Therefore, it's recommended that you do everything you can to avoid your phone overheating.

There are a few habits, especially charging habits, that can make the heat affecting your iPhone even worse. Tech expert Steven Athwal points out a charging routine that might seem lowkey, but can have a bigger impact on your device than you'd think.

"When people plug in their phone charger under a pillow, on soft furnishings, or beneath a bulky case that traps the heat, you can do serious damage to the battery or cause general overheating problems," he explains. "Charging generates heat, and if that heat can't dissipate, the internal temperature rises quickly. Lithium-ion batteries are very temperature sensitive; excess heat raises internal resistance and chemical wear. Over time, this causes overheating alerts and quickens battery degradation, meaning it won't hold a charge for long and will probably need a replacement battery."

Additionally, if you tend to charge your phone in bed, under a pillow, or in any warm environment with a cheap, low-quality charger, that can make things even worse.

"Devices designed by Apple are programmed to manage battery power efficiently," adds cyber pro Baruch Labunksi. "However, uncertified power adapters and cheap third-party cables cause Apple devices to overheat when charging since the accessories do not properly regulate charging voltage."
