Your iPhone is only as useful as the amount of storage space you have on that iPhone. In other words: a phone that lacks space is one that lacks the ability to take photos, videos, download files, work at an efficient speed, etc. There are ways you can keep your phone’s storage from sinking so low that your device becomes less efficient, but it is going to take some maintenance and management on your part. Avoiding some of the most common pitfalls and mistakes when it comes to storage space is the best way to increase your storage capacity  so that your phone remains as functional as it was the day you brought it.

These common storage mistakes are eating up your iPhone’s space.

Never Deleting Photos and Videos

You may take lots of photos and videos and that’s great — but it’s important to manage your media files. This means: saving the ones you want to keep to iCloud or another cloud service and deleting those you can live without to make room for more media. Photos are a major source of storage space loss, so paying closer attention to them can help.

Downloading Large Files

It’s not that you shouldn’t download large files — it’s that you should always delete them after you’ve printed them or finished doing whatever needs to be done with them.

Letting Text Messages Build Up

You’re probably seeing a theme here: deleting files is your friend. This includes text messages, which accumulate so rapidly that you probably aren’t even noticing how much space they’re consuming. Delete old texts and don’t look back. If you’re wary about deleting them, start with any texts that contain attachments, which take up more space.

Not Managing Music Files

Music files and podcasts are yet another source of storage space woes. Make sure you’re regularly deleting media files you no longer need.

Ignoring Storage Alerts

If you’re repeatedly getting storage alerts that you’re ignoring, you are allowing your device to continue to lose space, which will eventually result in performance issues. The minute you get a storage alert act on it.
