Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond has come to an end, yet the actor still has a strong opinion about the future of the character. The 53-year-old actor told British magazine Radio Times that he doesn’t think a woman should ever play Bond.
“Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” he said to the magazine.
Craig has played Bond in five films, including the soon-to-be-released No Time To Die, which hits movie theaters October 8. He has been the franchise’s longest-running Bond, as his term began in 2006 with Casino Royale – though Roger Moore has starred in the most Bond movies.

Since the Bond movie franchise began in 1962 with Dr. No starring Sean Connery as the legendary MI6 agent, the role has only been portrayed by white men. However, this trend may change with the next Bond actor.
While Craig feels that the character should only be played by a male actor, producer Barbara Broccoli has said that Bond can be played by an actor of any race.
Broccoli told Variety in 2020 that she also feels Bond should not be played by a woman, stating that, "I believe we should be creating new characters for women – strong female characters," she told Variety. "I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that."
