Donald Trump has recently come under the microscope fro sending the national guard to Washington, D.C., using the explanation that he’s trying to fight crime and homelessness. While there’s been plenty of backlash online and in the form of protests, the president doesn’t seem to hear a lot of it. As people call him a dictator for his actions, he responds by saying that “a lot of people” want a dictator. Keep reading for more information.

Donald Trump Thinks 'A Lot' of Americans Want A Dictator

Last week, Trump spoke to reporters in the White House about his latest executive orders. One in particular directs Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to train a new National Guard unit specifically tasked with "ensuring public safety and order in the Nation's capital," the complete opposite of what many Americans are calling for (the dismissal of the National Guard from D.C.).

"When I see what’s happening to our cities and then you send in troops, instead of being praised, they’re saying you’re trying to take over the Republic," Trump said. It's unclear what Trump sees happening in his city, as violent crime was down 35% from 2023 to 2024 and is the lowest it's been in over 30 years.

"They say: 'We don't need him. Freedom, freedom, he's a dictator, he's a dictator,'" Trump continued. "A lot of people are saying, 'Maybe we like a dictator.' I don't like a dictator. I'm not a dictator. I'm a man with great common sense and a smart person."

The next day, Trump doubled down. "The line is that I'm a dictator, but I stop crime," he said during a Cabinet meeting. "So a lot of people say, 'You know, if that's the case, I'd rather have a dictator.'" It's unclear which people are saying this.

Social Media Reactions

Of course, Trump's comments have made headlines, and social media users are sharing their reactions across Instagram, TikTok, and X. "The delusion is real!!!" one person wrote on Instagram.

"NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE wants this... NO ONE," another person wrote.

"Only in his head," a third person commented,

"Our military fought for freedoms against dictatorship!" another user pointed out. "He is dead wrong on this one!"

"Whenever he says 'a lot of people are saying' it automatically means 'I'm making s*** up,'" one comment reads.

"More proof that Trump and his supporters do not live in reality," said another.

"This is honestly scary and can't believe the people who voted for this clown," says one person. "It's like a bad dream that won't go away!"
