President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, have been making headlines for all sorts of things these days, but there’s been a recent development in their relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin that has the internet buzzing.

The First Lady recently went viral and caused some controversy when she penned an open letter to the Russian politician, asking him to end the war and Russia’s attempted takeover of Ukraine. The letter, which asked Putin to consider the children affected by the conflict, caused a stir, as some people found it to be hypocritical, while others applauded the first lady. Now, in a new interview, the president is addressing where he and his wife stand with Putin, and revealed her true feelings about him. Read more about his latest statement on the matter below.

Melania Trump Pens An Open Letter To Vladimir Putin On The Ukraine War

On August 15th, Melania Trump surprised the nation when, on social media and through the press, she released an official open letter to President Vladimir Putin, addressing her feelings on the Ukraine War. The war began between Russia and Ukraine in 2014. It escalated in 2022, when Russia started invading the country, on a clear mission to occupy more of it, causing one of the most significant conflicts in Europe the world has seen in years.

With the war, many people in Ukraine have been severely affected, with people losing their homes and loved ones in the violence, and many residents having to flee and seek asylum in other countries. Due to his uniquely close relationship to President Putin, as things in Ukraine progressed, President Trump originally began getting into conflicts with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, and has been known for going back on his campaign promises to end the war quickly.

Now, the First Lady has gotten involved, after statements and interviews suggested she was highly against the war. In her open letter to Putin, encouraging him to cease Russia's occupation of the country, she referenced the children affected, writing, "In today's world, some children are forced to carry a quiet laughter, untouched by the darkness around them—a silent defiance against the forces that can potentially claim their future."

"Mr. Putin, you can singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter," she continued. "In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone—you serve humanity itself. Such a bold idea transcends all human division, and you, Mr. Putin, are fit to implement this vision with a stroke of the pen today. It is time."

Trump Reveals His & Melania's Feelings Towards Putin In A Recent Interview

In a recent interview with the 79-year-old president this past Sunday, the press asked him about updates between him and President Putin, as well as where he and his wife stood with the influential leader. His response ended up being a bit surprising, considering he's boasted about his close and powerful relationship with the Russian president.

"Both of us are disappointed at this ridiculous war continuing," he stated, after noting that Melania feels "very strongly" about the suffering happening in Ukraine.

Although in the same interview, he noted that "the first lady actually got along great with Putin," he still mentioned that they're "both disappointed" that the war still has not come to an end.

Many people have found both the president's and his wife's statements on the war to be ironic, considering the number of civilian deaths occurring in Palestine, as well as the number of children who have passed away in the United States due to highly debated topics like gun violence.

Therefore, since the release of her letter, the First Lady has been slammed as "performative" and "hypocritical." We'll be curious to see if the letter and Trump's latest statements on being disappointed will bring any sort of difference to how quickly the war comes to an end.
