Ellen DeGeneres is opening up about life away from daytime television, admitting that she misses her time on TV more than she may have expected.
The former talk show host made a rare appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where she reflected on her career, her life in the UK, and what she might want to do next. While Ellen has largely stepped away from the spotlight since the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022, her latest interview offered a glimpse into how she feels about leaving television behind. Ellen DeGeneres Makes A Rare TV Appearance After Moving To The UK
The famous blonde show host appeared on The Graham Norton Show on October 16th in an episode featuring fellow guests Colin Farrell, Quentin Tarantino, and Gemma Chan. The comedian’s appearance was a rare return to television following the end of her long-running daytime talk show and her subsequent retreat from the public eye.
Since stepping back from Hollywood, Ellen and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have relocated to the Cotswolds in England. The couple moved to the UK after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, and Ellen has kept a relatively low profile in the years since her show ended.
During her conversation with Graham, the comedian discussed missing aspects of her former career and suggested she could be interested in doing something new in the UK. She also joked about the possibility of hosting a gardening show, even coming up with the pun-filled title “Lawn and Order.”
Ellen DeGeneres Says She Has ‘Nothing’ Going On And Really Misses TV
When Graham asked whether she missed being on television, the 68-year-old admitted that she did, explaining that it was not just the experience of being on camera that she missed. She also fondly remembered the people she worked with and the daily routine of making her show.
“I miss a lot about it. I miss laughing every single day with the writers, and I miss the guests,” she said.
The comedian also explained that she had considered the possibility of pursuing another television project while living in England. She joked that it seemed relatively easy to get on British television, pointing to her own appearance as an example of how she could show up without having anything specific to promote.
“I just called you up and said, ‘I have nothing to promote, can I just sit on the couch?’ and you’re like, ‘Yeah,'” she continued. “I’ve nothing really going on and I really miss being on TV.”
Ellen’s comments offered a look at her life after daytime television, as she acknowledged missing a career that kept her in front of audiences for nearly two decades. However, her return has also led some social media users to debate whether or not she should really make a comeback.
