For the past five months, Donald Trump and Elon Musk have been the best of friends, with Trump even creating an unofficial cabinet for him called the Department of Government Efficiency. Though the pair have been working together seamlessly over the past few months, it seems as though Trump’s recent spending bill is the final straw for Musk, and he’s taken to his own platform, X, to turn on him. Keep reading for more information.
Elon Musk Tweets Against Trump
The Big Beautiful Bill, as Trump has taken to calling it, is GOP-driven tax and spending plan that massively expands the deficit, cuts environmental and energy incentives, and removes electric vehicle (EV) tax credits. Understandably, Musk is unhappy about this bill particularly because of the effect it has on his company—Tesla. The bill eliminates the $7,500 federal EV tax credit and phases out clean-energy incentives, potentially costing Tesla billions in revenue.
To express his dissatisfaction with the bill, Musk publicly lashed out at Trump and his supporters on X, writing, "I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

Social Media Reactions
Musk's tweet has garnered a lot of media attention, as it's the first time he's opposed Trump since he took office in January. The tweet has over 53k comments, 100k retweets, and over 624k likes. In the comment section, users are pointing out the absurdity of the situation. "It's kinda funny to see you throw shade at Trump's spending now, especially since you were one of his biggest supporters and helped him win," one person wrote. "You act shocked, but you backed this whole thing before. Can't be surprised when you helped put the guy in power who's running up the debt."
"Two morons fighting with each other," another said. "This is comical."
"Why are you stirring pots like this?" another user asked. "Which side are you on? Pick one."
"The countdown to Trump starting to abuse and tweet against Elon Musk begins now," another joked, referencing Trump's tendency to viciously attack anyone that opposes him on social media.
