With the start of the new year, many trends from last year tend to fade, but Emma Stone is clearly holding on to the butter yellow moment, which she showcased on the Golden Globes red carpet last night.

The choice was a bold one, as butter yellow is typically associated with warmer seasons rather than winter awards shows—but the Easy A icon didn’t seem to mind. She wore a custom butter-yellow two-piece set by Louis Vuitton featuring a satin, sleeveless, boxy boatneck crop top that highlighted her midriff.

Fans React to Emma Stone's Golden Globes Outfit

The look was paired with a low-rise, floor-length column skirt adorned with intricate beaded fringe, adding fluid movement as she walked the carpet. Sleek, minimal jewelry; her softly auburn, growing-out bob; champagne-toned eyeshadow; and matching butter-yellow ankle-strap heels completed the ensemble.

While Stone looked stunning in the fun two-piece set, many fans on Reddit couldn’t help but compare her outfit to various objects.

“It looks like whole and shredded parmesan cheese to me,” said one user. A second wrote, “The poorly fitting potato sack top look must be in fashion right now. Kristen Stewart had one on when she was wearing that bubble wrap dress she was wearing the other day.” A third noted, “Whoever styled that should be fired, sorry.” A fourth commented, “If you're gonna do something like this, the fit has to be PERFECT. Instead, it just looks awkward & out of proportion.” A fifth said, “This is screaming, ‘These two pieces were clean, and they are a similar color, so that’s what I put on.’” Someone else quipped, “String cheese came to my mind.”

Many fans slammed Louis Vuitton’s fashion house for the way they’ve been dressing Emma ever since she became the ambassador for the brand. “I expect this outfit is LV and it doesn’t look great,” noted one user. A second said, “La La Land award cycle was the last time she wore different designers. Then she won an Oscar and signed an LV contract, and her looks have been quite mid ever since.”

Emma Stone Nominated at the Golden Globes

Despite some fashion trolling online, many fans were quick to praise Emma’s hair, especially after she shaved her head for Bugonia. The mother of one was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her role in the film, marking her ninth Golden Globe nomination overall.

Opening up about the grow-out process, Emma shared that it "has been unexpectedly very fun.” She explained, “The first three months were the hardest part because I wore a beanie constantly. It was very short and buzzed, and I found it just kind of boring to always be wearing a beanie. But once it got to pixie length, from then on, it’s been a really fun process. You get to try so many different styles.”

As for her category, the 37-year-old did not take home a Golden Globe. The award was won by Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You at the 83rd ceremony.

Other nominees in the category included Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, and Cynthia Erivo for Wicked: For Good.
