Of all of the makeup goodies you own, your eyeshadow palette can be one of the trickier products to get just right. As you may have already figured out from years of experimentation, simply dipping a brush into a random brown shadow and sweeping it across your eyelid isn’t going to necessarily do you any favors. This is one product that requires a little know-how to brighten your eyes and lift your face for a more radiant and youthful look. Of course, the best way to proceed is to call in the experts and let them guide the way. Saffron Hughes, makeup expert at falseeyelashes.co.uk, is here to uncover the one eyeshadow hack she always shares with clients who are looking to create a more youthful look.

Start With A Wing

You don’t always have to reach for a messy liquid eyeliner when attempting to create a wing or dramatic flick that enhances your eyes and gives your face a sweet lift. With the right placement of eyeshadow you can create that same aura, with even less mess, to boot.

“Firstly, I suggest using a dark eyeshadow shade in your outer corner/crease and blending it out and up into a wing,” Hughes says. “This will add a lifted appearance to your eye look. You should then apply concealer underneath this line and take it up and out towards your hairline, before blending. This will emphasize the lifted look even further.”

Add Light Shadow To The Inner Corner

After you have your wing squared away, it’s time to focus on your inner eye area. “You should then add a lighter eyeshadow shade in your inner corner and on your eyelid below your crease to really make your eyes pop,” Hughes says. “Then to further emphasize this, I’d recommend applying white or nude eyeliner to your waterline to help open your eyes and brighten them.”

Add Mascara

No eye look would be complete without the final step: mascara.

“Finally, apply mascara to your top lashes - focusing mainly on your outer corner lashes,” Hughes says. “You can even add a half/accent false lash for an extra lifted look. Whatever you do, avoid applying any dark shadows or heavy mascara to your bottom lashes as this will drag the eyes down – making you appear older than you are.”

With those easy, breezy steps in mind, grab a neutral-hued eyeshadow kit, a good tube of mascara, and go to town.
