We hear a great deal about all of the foods we shouldn’t be eating if the goal is to lose belly fat or weight. Instead of focusing on the negative — like how Rocky Road ice-cream isn’t actually a health food despite its omega-3-rich nuts — why not consider the many healthy and delicious foods you can eat in abundance? These are five foods you can eat nonstop and still lose belly fat.

salmon

Wild Salmon

Wild salmon is an anti-inflammatory food that contains a wealth of omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown in studies to help reduce belly fat and contribute to faster and easier weight loss. Aim to eat wild salmon two to three times a week as part of a balanced diet, but be sure to stay away from farmed salmon, which also contains high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids that can cause inflammation in the body and actually increase belly fat.

peanut butter

Peanut Butter

Almonds and walnuts tend to snag all the glory in the nut world, and for good reason given their antioxidant and vitamin content. But peanuts and peanut butter (assuming you are not allergic) are great for reducing belly fat. Peanuts contain both polyunsaturated fats that can improve how your body metabolizes sugar and Genistein, a compound that reduces the amount of fat stored in your body. Considering how our bodies love storing fat in the midsection, this is good news for anyone trying to reduce belly fat.

eggs

Eggs

Blasting belly fat with good foods is all about finding nutrient-dense ingredients that are lower in calories and sugar, but high in nutrients like protein, iron, and essential vitamins and minerals. With just 78 calories and five grams of fat per serving, one egg is packed with filling protein and hard-to-get minerals like selenium. It also contains vitamins E and B12, the latter of which is crucial for helping to convert glucose into energy to you can burn more fat.

bread

Sprouted Whole Grain Bread

It isn’t easy to cut all bread out of your life — nor is it necessary. While it’s true that white bread is low in fiber and higher in refined carbs, choosing a sprouted whole grain bread is beneficial to your diet. You may need to get used to the more raw, less sugary taste of whole grain breads, but once you do you’re adding filling fiber, B vitamins, vitamin C, folate, and amino acids to your diet. And you won’t have to make all in your sandwiches on iceberg lettuce cups, which are great, but no substitute for bread.

cottage cheese

Cottage Cheese

Low-fat cottage cheese is the perfect base for a healthy snack with blueberries, nuts, and seeds. But if you choose a brand that contains gut-healthy probiotics, it’s also healthy on its own — and is a source of casein, which keeps you full for longer periods of time.
