When you’re in a rush and need your phone to cooperate and charge as quickly as possible, there are a few tips and tricks that tech experts rely on. These hacks can speed up the time it takes to get your phone’s battery charge from 20 percent to 100 percent (or at least to 80 percent, which falls within the 40 to 80 percent sweet zone) so that you don’t waste precious moments during the day attempting to get your phone to where you need it. This is the surprising hack that keeps your phone battery from dying — and tech experts love it.

Turn On Airplane Mode

There are two tricks that you should try — together — to make an impressive difference in how your iPhone charges, according to Olivia Tan, co-founder of CocoFax. “The one thing you should try immediately to keep your iPhone battery from dying is to reduce data usage in combination with turning on Airplane Mode,” Tan says. “Out of all the battery-saving tips out there, I personally find reducing data usage highly effective especially if you own one of those older iPhone models or not plus-size models. Therefore, whenever possible, limit or if not needed, entirely eliminate using data to ensure a full day battery life.”

But what, exactly, does it mean to limit data? Some ways that you can do this include disabling Background App Refresh, disabling Wi-Fi Assist, downloading media instead of streaming it, and going into your settings to see which apps are using the most data. From there, you may want to consider deleting some of those apps.

“Preventing fast battery drainage by limiting data usage is the perfect preventative step to take to keep your phone battery from draining, but if you do find yourself far away from a charger and in need of more battery power, turn on Airplane Mode, reduce screen brightness, and save your device from imminent battery death,” Tan says.

When you enable Airplane Mode it prevents the phone from using WiFi, Bluetooth, radio, and other taxing functions. This allows your device to rest while it charges so that it powers up even faster. These simple hacks have been proven to be effective — try them and see how it changes your every day routine.
