Finding a hairstyle that flatters your face can be overwhelming—you may be tempted to just follow the trends, but the key is finding the hairstyle that enhances your natural features. If you have a rounder face, you may want a hairstyle that makes your face look thinner. While hairstyles that frame your face, like layers that start under your chin, will make your face look even rounder, there are ways to give your face a thinner appearance. We asked Ambria Peoples Founder of A’kier Salon in Wayne, Michigan, what four hairstyles you can try if you want your face to look thinner.
Pixie Cut
Pixie cuts are not only cute and fun for the warmer seasons, they’re also incredibly low maintenance—less hair means less money on product and less time styling! “A pixie cut with a fuller bang helps give a slim face a more full look,” Peoples says, “Pixie cuts help to balance a heart shaped face.”
Beach Waves
Beach waves are a timeless and easy way to achieve a style that looks put together, but is still easy to do. Peoples says that a middle part paired with beach waves will give the face a slimmer appearance. If you have a little more length to your hair, this is one you can do without having to make a trip to the salon!
Fringe Bangs
If you have longer hair, this one is especially true. We’ve all wondered how we’d look if we god bangs, and if you have a rounder face, it could be a more flattering look for you. With that being said, bangs do take more work, especially if you have any type of wave in your hair.
Up-Dos
Again, this one only applies if you have enough length to your hair to put it up, but it could be a quick and easy way to elongate your face. “A high pony or a twisted bun gives the appearance of a slimmer elongated face.” Peoples notes. If you are in a hurry to get out the door and need a hairstyle that will elongate your face without heat, try throwing it up in a high pony or bun.
At the end of the day, the best hairstyle for you is the one that you feel the best in and is the easiest for you to manage. However, if you want a style that elongates your face, try one of the above styles. If you’re not sure where to begin with your hair, talk to your hairstylist—they will have the best recommendations for your hair texture and face shape.
