As much as we love spending (way too much) time on Instagram, there is always room for improvement in social media apps. There are a number of issues that leave IG users’ heads shaking at times and asking out loud, “why on Earth can’t we do this?” And, finally, Instagram has responded to one of those frustrations with a feature that Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, calls a “finally feature.” Your Instagram user experience is about to improve greatly: Instagram has made a major announcement — and we’re so glad they finally made this change.

Carousel Deletion

If you’re like many Instagram users you take regular advantage of its carousel photo option. This simply means: you select more than one photo from your collection to feature in a post at one time. If, for example, you’re baking the best brownies anyone has ever tasted, it’s worthy content to show photos of your process and progress, from batter to delish finished baked good. But there are times when you are reviewing your carousel after it has been posted and you realize one of those photos isn’t adding any value to the carousel. In the past, you were out of luck — you would either have to keep the photo in your carousel or delete the entire post and start over again, which is frustratingly inconvenient. But, finally, Instagram has responded to users’ requests and made a simple but important change: you can now go in and delete one or as many photos from the carousel as you’d like.

Mosseri posted a video on Twitter recently explaining the changes and how to perform them. Deleting a photo from your carousel is simple: edit the carousel, swipe to the photo you want to remove, and then tap the delete button. Done. If you decide later that you made a mistake and want the photo back in your carousel, you’ll have 30 days to recover it before Instagram deletes it permanently.

One additional fun change IG has made is called Rake Shake. Noticing a problem in Instagram as you use it? Shake your phone to report the issue. That’s basically it.

All of these little changes — and in the case of carousel deletion, a more significant one — contribute to making Instagram one of the most popular social media apps in existence.
