Even if you lack the photo-taking skills of a pro, an iPhone makes it easy to snap crisp, professional-looking photos and video that are impressive and help create great memories. But, there’s a caveat: your photos can look even better if you take advantage of some of the amazing settings on your iPhone that can help.

1. Use the Camera Grid

The camera grid is a built-in feature on your iPhone that provides a 3x3 grid to help you frame your shots. Following the rule of thirds composition in photos creates more dynamic photos, so that your subject isn’t simply situated in the center of the photo. To turn on this feature, go to Settings > Camera > toggle Grid to On.

2. Tap to Focus and Slide to Adjust Exposure

Tapping to focus means simply that you tap on the main subject in your photo, and this helps focus the photo where you want, which is especially helpful if you lack good lighting. After you tap to focus, you can adjust the amount of lighting in your photo, from lightest to darkest. Tap your subject and you’ll see a sun icon next to the focus square. Slide your finger up and down to increase or decrease exposure.

3. Use Night Mode

Night Mode is a camera setting available on iPhone 11 and newer models that allows in more light and reduces noise in your nighttime photos so that they look crisp and more natural looking than if you use your flash. Go to your Camera and, if you are taking photos in a dark setting, you’ll see the Night mode icon, which looks like a yellow moon, turn yellow when it’s on.

4. Clean Your Lens

If your camera lens is dirty or has fingerprint smudges on it, the quality of your photos will be affected. You can clean the lens with a microfiber cloth and add a lens cleaning solution if necessary.
