Johnny Depp’s legal battle is far from over.
Depp sued The Sun for referring to him as a “wife beater” in a 2018 article, but, in November, a High Court judge, Mr Justice Nicol dismissed the actor’s libel suit against The Sun‘s parent company, News Group Newspapers (NGN).
But that is not the end of it.

Nicol ruled that The Sun's article was "substantially true" and therefore not a case of libel, concluding that 12 of the 14 alleged incidents of domestic violence that NGN wrote about in their article did actually happen.
Recently, the same judge denied Depp permission to appeal the decision, explaining, "I do not consider that the proposed grounds of appeal have a reasonable prospect of success."
In addition, the judge ordered Depp to pay NGN 630,000 pounds ($840,000) to cover their legal fees.
Depp was also granted until December 7 to apply directly to the UK Court of Appeal.
According to The Guardian, the actor took advantage of that deadline although it is still unclear what his grounds for appeal are.
In a November 6 statement posted to Instagram, the actor announced his plans for appealing the ruling.
He wrote, "My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false...The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal."
"My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time," he added.

Depp's solicitor, Jenny Afia, called the judge's decision "perverse" and "bewildering."
"The judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr Depp not to appeal this decision," she said.
