Ryan Murphy Casts Kaia Gerber In His Upcoming Series Based On An Acclaimed Novel
Earlier this month, media outlets revealed that the American Horror Story creator and Emmy award winner would be creating a television series adaptation of The Shards, a horror novel by famous author Bret Easton Ellis, who is famously known for writing American Psycho.
According to Deadline, the show will be directed by Max Winkler, son of famous actor Henry Winkler, and will star Kaia Gerber, daughter of iconic model Cindy Crawford. While not much information surrounding the series has been released, reports say the show is in development with FX.
This is not the first time the 23-year-old prodigy has collaborated with Ryan, as she has performed on American Horror Story and the spin-off show, American Horror Stories. Although she is the daughter of a modeling legend, Kaia has been seemingly working to build herself a career as an actress, making her big break in AHS and performing in larger films like Saturday Night and Shell.
She has done some modeling work, looking like a copy of her mom, but acting appears to be her ideal line of work.
Internet Users React To Kaia's Casting In 'The Shards'
Despite the Los Angeles native building up her acting resume over the years, many internet users expressed disappointment in her casting, criticizing her skills and pointing fingers at the Glee creator for casting another "nepo baby" in his productions.
After Deadline and Kaia shared the news of her casting in The Shards on Instagram, people took to the comments section to share their opinions, with many being harsh.
"I'm over seeing talentless models being cast in TV shows and films instead of hardworking, amazing actors," wrote an Instagram user.
"She can't act!" commented another. "How does she keep getting roles?"
"Ryan's obsession with talentless nepo babies needs to be studied," added an additional user.
On Reddit, television and pop culture enthusiasts also sounded off after seeing the news of the Mango ambassador and Ryan's announcement, upset that she would take on a lead role.
"She is so not meant to be an actress, and I'm sick of her getting cast in things," wrote a Reddit user.
"Ryan Murphy [likes] throwing in talentless amongst the talented."
Users on Reddit noted that this situation is all too familiar in the famous writer's most recent projects, as he's leaned towards unconventional casting choices seemingly for views, as he recently cast Kim Kardashian in another one of his shows alongside other acclaimed actresses. Thus, leading others to assume that the 'nepo baby' controversy does not bother him.
We will have to wait and see how things go with Kaia in his future show and if the backlash surrounding their collaboration changes anything.
