In a press release, Harris explained, "Millions of women across the country are affected by uterine fibroids, which can present serious health complications."
"Complications from uterine fibroids can lead to maternal mortality and morbidity, an ongoing crisis especially for Black women," she continued.
The act was first introduced by Congresswoman Yvette Clarke in the House of Representatives. She explained, "This bill is an important first step towards making women's healthcare a priority."
According to Popsugar, this proposed act will "provide $30 million anually for FY21-FY25 (fiscal year 2021 to fiscal year 2025) to the National Institutes of Health to expand research on uterine fibroids."
Harris also advocated for women's access to reproductive healthcare.
According to Today, during a Democratic presidential debate, Harris remarked, "This is the sixth debate we have had in this presidential cycle, and not nearly one word, with all of these discussions about health care, on women’s access to reproductive health care, which is under full-on attack in America today. And it’s outrageous."
She also co-sponsored the Women's Health Protection Act of 2019.
