Prince William, 41, and Kate Middleton, 41, have engaged in PDA on a few occasions over the years (and yes, holding hands when you’re a royal does actually count as PDA!) Kate Middleton Touches Prince William 'On The Bum' At King Charles' Coronation In Scotland
On Wednesday, July 5th, the Prince and Princess of Wales were in Scotland for the National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland, which honored the crowning of King Charles and Queen Camilla. It was a far less formal and extravagant affair than the official coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6th, which is perhaps why the Waleses thought it was acceptable to be more affectionate with each other.
Kate Middleton was dressed in a stunning cobalt blue Catherine Walker coat dress which she previously wore to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle at Easter this year, as well as a Philip Treacy hat and a necklace from the late Queen Elizabeth II's collection. Prince William wore his RAF No.1 Uniform with his Order of the Thistle mantle. Pictures of the well-dressed couple show them standing alongside the new king and queen, and in one picture, Kate can be seen giving her husband a "pat on the bum" with her left hand. At the coronation, King Charles was presented with the Honors of Scotland, informally known as the country’s crown jewels, which includes the crown of King James V of Scotland, a scepter, and a new sword of state. A 21-gun salute followed the church service, announcing King Charles III’s reign.
A Body Language Expert Weighs In
Body language expert Judi James, who has regularly analyzed the Prince and Princess of Wales, told the Mirror that there was such a huge difference in their behavior vs that of King Charles and Queen Camilla. "During the flypast in particular, you could see the contrast in the way William and Kate communicate vs Charles and Camilla," she told the pub. "The King and Queen are more like a ventriloquist act, both muttering asides to the other in a way that doesn't look like real conversation but the ability to mutter may feel comforting for them both at events like this."
"They often overlap in their speech, which again suggests it's a mutual support and comfort tool rather than a way of conversing verbally. There is no eye contact," James continued, before going on to tell the pub about the Prince and Princess of Wales' body language in comparison. "William and Kate always show signals of attentive listening to each other and here they did their signature ritual of adding either touch or truncated touch to communicate with both words and non-verbal gestures that show emotion," she said. "Kate even did her now signature bum-pat gesture and the couple tend to use eye contact and exchange smiles as they speak," she added.
