The Kardashian family’s annual Christmas celebration isn’t just about holiday cheer—it’s also a highly anticipated fashion moment. This year, Kim Kardashian delivered on the style front, though, of course, not without a bit of backlash.
The reality star chose a striking black-and-silver Mugler gown from 1986 that showcased her hourglass figure. The vintage dress featured a sweetheart neckline and a small train adorned with sparkling black trim. She elevated the glamour with diamond drop earrings and diamond cuffs by Lorraine Schwartz. Kim styled her dark hair in a retro ponytail and completed the look with flawless makeup, featuring soft pink lips and rosy, matte-finished cheeks.

The mother of four shared several family photos on Instagram with her kids in front of her Christmas trees, following a week of comedic struggles to get them to pose together. In a previous Instagram photo dump, she humorously documented her attempts to corral her children for a group shot.
However, both the public and PETA’s founder were less than thrilled with Kardashian’s choice of gifts for her kids this Christmas.
On Instagram Stories, the Skims mogul revealed that her family had grown by four tiny Pomeranian puppies, captioning a photo of all four together with, “Each kid got a puppy.” The reality star already owns several fluffy Pomeranians, including Sushi, Sake, and Soba, as well as other pets like bearded dragons (Speed) and, previously, cats and horses.
Speaking to PEOPLE on Sunday, Dec. 28, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk criticized the gift choice. “Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that,” she said.

Fans Defend Kim Kardashian for Buying Each of Her Kids a Puppy
Newkirk suggested a way for the family to make amends: “[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis.”
Surprisingly, many fans defended Kim on Instagram, arguing that the puppies are likely well cared for by housekeepers and staff, even when she or her children aren’t around.
“I guess I don’t understand why it’s PETA’s business if the Kardashians have 4 dogs,” said one fan. A second wrote, “Why would PETA be concerned with pets living in the lap of luxury?” A third noted, “I dislike the fact I’m going to side with Kim on this one.” A fourth quipped, “Those dogs are going to have a better life than most people. I’m happy for them.” A fifth said, “These PETA people are unbelievable. I would be willing to bet that those dogs will be well taken care of!” A sixth commented, “They will have the best life. PETA needs to step off.” Someone else said, “Dogs are dogs… and we’re glad they’re taken care of. PETA worried about the wrong things.”
Another user added, “The people who get dogs at Christmas time and then surrender them later because they aren’t ready for the responsibility are the real issue. I’m sure families as loaded as hers, with little or no responsibilities, will cope with having 4 dogs.”
Kim's representatives have not responded to the backlash.
