Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are facing backlash from fans after the newlyweds apparently “treated a working class experience” (going to the grocery store), as one fan wrote, “like an aesthetic,” and as another commented on Instagram, “being tone-deaf.”
Last week, Kardashian, 43, and Barker, 46, posed for photos while shopping at a convenience store in Daleville, Indiana and the Poosh founder uploaded the shots in a post for her 196 Instagram million followers. Along with photos of her and her husband wearing matching black sunglasses, black-and-white outfits and treating junk food aisles like their own private runways, Kardashian captioned the post, “truck stop, huh?”

The couple spent the last few weeks on-the-road with Machine Gun Kelly, who is currently embarking on his “Mainstream Sellout” tour and playing live music with Barker across the country. While some fans in Kardashian’s comment section were amused by the pics and dubbed them “fun” or praised their “gas station chic” ensembles, others notably shared their “outrage” and “disgust” at the snaps.
“My favorite thing is when this family takes poor people activities and makes them “fashion,”” wrote one user while another asked the reality star, “And it was necessary to document this trip?” Someone else pointed out how vastly different the duo’s trip to the store might have been as opposed to the rest of us, writing, “Who takes a photographer shopping?” Another agreed, adding “Who’s takin these pics and who cares if they’re in a truck stop?” One other user jokingly wrote, “Let’s cosplay as regular folk,” pointing out the ridiculousness of it all.

While neither Kardashian or Barker have responded to the controversy, fans may recall when Kris and Kylie Jenner faced a similar situation back in May. In an episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, the mother-daughter duo documented a trip to the grocery store, and were visibly excited to do, as the Kylie Cosmetics mogul said, “normal things.” This included finding novelty in other activities like paying for groceries with a card, and the ‘momager’ even said she “needed the experience of checking out.” Kris added, “I’ve waited for this for years.”

Ultimately, as many Twitter users pointed out later, this episode proved these stars are *not* just like us (like getting excited to go to a car wash before boarding a lavish private jet). One fan tweeted at the time, “I’m losing it at the scene of Kris and Kylie going to the grocery store. Like this is the most out of touch thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Another added, “#TheKardashians thought the “day of normal errands” with Kris and Kylie would be cute but it’s SO GROSS. We know they’re out of touch, we don’t need to see just how out of touch. Kris didn’t know how to use her credit card and was so excited to push the cart.”
