A Fashion Industry Source Calls Jeff & Lauren Bezos' Involvement In The Met Gala

One of fashion and pop culture's most iconic and highly anticipated events of the year is finally here: the 2026 Met Gala.

Every year, style and overall pop culture lovers look forward to what their favorite designers will put together for their favorite celebrities. People of all different professions attend, from reality stars like the Kardashians to athletes like Serena Williams. Each year, for the gala and setting it up to promote the latest fashion and costume exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there's a special selection of co-chairs to host it.

This year, heads were turned when it was announced that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, whom he married in Venice nearly a year ago, would be co-chairs. While some people supported the decision to get them involved, many others expressed outrage, stating that billionaires should not have a say in the matter, especially billionaires with no background in fashion.

As it turns out, people in the industry reportedly feel the exact same way and have much lower morale for this year's festivities. An inside industry source recently told The Daily Mail that their involvement was "very hurtful and very disturbing."

Jeff & Lauren's Met Gala Plans Are A 'Slap In The Face,' According To Industry Source

Usually, in the past, it seemed like nothing could really tarnish the reputation of the infamous gala, aside from its ongoing debatable history as an unnecessary, 'rich' event. Other than that, people continued to show increased excitement surrounding the fashion and how different celebrities were going to represent the annual theme.

However, according to the fashion industry source from above, stylists and their teams are finding the entrepreneur and former journalist's involvement "a slap in the face" to those with real fashion experience. Additionally, celebrities who have gone in the past or have been asked to go for years, like Meryl Streep, have pulled out due to the strategic move made by Jeff and Lauren to become two stars of the evening.

We'll be curious to see not only what the duo wears for the big night, whose theme is "Costume Art" this year, but also how they interact with others on the red carpet, and if they seem to be greeted with a little subtle shade. Either way, any goal they had to integrate themselves into the fashion world has been accomplished.
