Meghan Markle, 40, is shining a light on working mothers in the U.S. and advocating for a national childcare policy with an important and powerful message.”Families everywhere, and especially working moms, are asked to shoulder so much,” the Duchess of Sussex acknowledged in a recent statement.

She added, “This has only been heightened by the pandemic, with increased caregiving responsibilities, rising prices and economic uncertainty.” Markle shares two children with her husband Prince Harryson Archie Harrison, 3 and daughter Lilibet Diana, 11 months, and is amplifying the voices of mothers nationwide who face additional stress and hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As it’s been said many times, it takes a village to raise a child,” the former Suits actress continued, stressing the importance of having a healthy support system to rely on when parenting. “Today, we’re sending a message that childcare isn’t just a community imperative — it’s a business imperative. Creating a stronger workforce starts with meeting the needs of families,” she said. Twitter users continue to commend Markle on social media for “sharing such a vital point” and “speaking out for mothers with demanding jobs” and those who “don’t have anyone to turn to.”

This statement comes a few weeks after Markle announced that her new podcast on Spotify, Archetypes, will “investigate the labels that try to hold women back.” In a teaser clip for her project, Markle said she will “uncover the origin of these stereotypes” and that listeners can learn from “uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives.”

In the teaser, Markle explains shares soundbites of derogatory words used against women and forms of slut-shaming to bring up another crucial point. “This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us,” we hear her say. “But where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?”

She then said, “I’m Meghan, and this is Archetypes— the podcast where we dissect, explore and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. I’ll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And, I’ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place.” Markle continues to use her platform to uplift, empower and educate others on topics that many on Twitter express relating to— whether about motherhood or women’s rights.
