The floods that have swept through Texas have been devastating, with at least 118 confirmed deaths and still 180 people missing. Included in that 118 number are 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp. Many have looked to the Trump administration for answers, especially after Trump fired over 100 employees at the National Weather Service, which experts warned would threaten lives by degrading forecast accuracy.

Meanwhile, Melania Trump has spoken out in support of Texans who were affected by the flood, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to essentially assure them they’re in her thoughts and prayers. Predictably, this did not go over well. Keep reading for more information.

Melania Trump's Texas Flood Tweet

Between July 4th and 7th, 5-11 inches of rain fell in just 24 hours, with some areas receiving up to 20 inches. This caused the Guadalupe River to surge by as much as 26-29 feet in under an hour. On July 5th, hours after she was seen dancing on a balcony at the White House with Donald Trump, celebrating the 4th of July, Melania took to Twitter to speak directly to those affected.

"My heart goes out to the parents in Texas during this difficult time," she wrote. "I am holding you in my thoughts and sending prayers for strength, comfort, and resilience." While some appreciated the kind words from the First Lady, most were in agreement: we don't need your thoughts and prayers.

Social Media Reactions

In response to her tweet, social media users across platforms called her out for being insensitive, unhelpful, and careless. "Instead of support, why don't you send some of that money that you and your husband scammed out of US citizens?" one person asked.

"Are you going to apologize for Trump's gutting of NOAA and the NWS, which clearly put people in Texas at greater risk?" another asked. "How many lives could have been saved by timely warnings?"

"Prayers don't rebuild homes," said another.

"Melania wouldn't know a genuine emotion unless it was a billionaire she was trying to fleece," wrote a fourth user.
