Netflix recently announced that it is ending its free trial periods, which previously gave potential new customers 30 days to try out the service for free before committing to it. In its place the company is unveiling an experimental two-day event called StreamFest that allows non-subscribers to stream the Netflix library without a subscription plan.
Unfortunately there’s a catch — at least for the time being. The StreamFest event will kick off in India at first. Potential customers throughout India will have an opportunity to stream content on Netflix for free starting on Dec. 4 and continuing for two days. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the goal is to reach new markets and customers.
There is talk that Netflix may bring StreamFest to other markets. But specific information about when that might happen or whether the U.S. will be included in its plan have not been released.
If you happen to live in India, StreamFest will be accessible to you via any device where you can access Netflix. There’s no need to put in your credit card info or other payment details, either. If, after the free two-day period, you find yourself smitten with the streaming service, you will have to sign up for a Netflix subscription to continue accessing its content.
