Wondering what Prince Charles thinks of The Crown and his real-life counterpart? Look no further. The royal family member,   73, apparently referenced the show in the recent past, according to Scottish politician Anas Sarwar. At the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Sarwar revealed that Charles, 73, referenced the acclaimed Netflix show that chronicles his mother, Queen Elizabeth‘s reign, as the prince introduced himself to Parliament members at an event in 2021.

“He came over and went, ‘Hello, nice to meet you all. I’m nowhere near how they portray me on Netflix,’ ” Sarwar recalled, as reported by The Daily Mail. “I thought that was a really interesting way of how you describe yourself.” Sarwar added, “I’m going to be in so much trouble for this because I don’t think you are meant to tell private conversations!”

On the award-winning show, Charles was portrayed by Emma actor Josh O’Connor in seasons 3 and 4. O’Connor scored an Emmy in 2021 for his part, which depicted Charles’ young adulthood, and the earliest stages of his romance and wedding to Princess Diana, played by Emma Corrin.

As the final two seasons of the show will now capture an older phase in the characters’ lives, each main role will be replaced, with Dominic West taking over for O’Connor as Charles and Elizabeth Debicki now starring as Diana instead of Corrin.

According to Hello! magazine, the following royal family members have seen the show: Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the Queen’s granddaughter Princess Eugenie, and Mike Tindall, who is married to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara. Tindall has even discussed The Crown on his podcast.

Vanessa Kirby, who starred as Princess Margaret in the show’s first two seasons, has said in the past that Eugenie confirmed that the even the Queen herself has watched it, as well. (We hope to hear her opinion on it one day!)
Additionally, Prince Harry also mentioned the hit series during his appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden last year. “It gives you a rough idea about that lifestyle, and the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, and what can come from that,” he said.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (Prince Charles’ wife) also notably met Emerald Fennell, the actress who portrayed her in the third and fourth season during a March 2022 event to mark International Women’s Day at Clarence House. The Duchess even made a joke at about Fennell attending the same soiree as her.

“For me, it’s very reassuring to know that if I should fall off my perch at any moment, my fictional alter ego is here to take over,” Camilla, 75, said to a laughing and cheering crowd, “So, Emerald — be prepared!”
