It’s been over a year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to take their leave from the royal family in favor of a more normal life, and it seems that the clock is nearly out of time on their return. The original deal was that there would be a reevaluation on royal affairs following a year away from their duties, and according to sources that decision will be made shortly.

Not only will the pair be losing their obligations to royal duties, but they are also subject to forgo their patronages as well. According to PEOPLE, it is believed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, “will be asked to relinquish their royal patronages: those that are in the gift of the Queen, 94. For Harry, 36, that includes the Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League and the London Marathon. For Meghan, 39, it is the National Theatre.”
Additionally, Prince Harry, who was once an Army captain, will lose his honorary military appointments. It is reported by the Daily Telegraph that this will likely upset the Prince, as he had indicated that he would like to keep this honor. However, the pair are expected to retain their Duke and Duchess titles.
It seems as though there is little animosity between the Queen and her grandson, as she released a statement saying, “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family," she said. "Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
The decision was meant to have been made on March 31, over a year after the pair left the royal family, but PEOPLE has reported that it will be finalized much sooner. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have begun to build their life together in California and are now expecting a second child, so it’s safe to assume that they won’t mind relinquishing their duties entirely in favor of their new reality.
