The rift between Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family has only grown wider in recent years, especially after the Duke of Sussex’s recent legal trouble. Reports are now coming out that he felt so spiteful against his family that he actually looked into changing his last name, going as far as to ask Princess Diana’s family if he could use her maiden name, Spencer. Keep reading for more information.
Prince Harry Looked Into Changing His Last Name
Before Princess Diana became Princess Diana, she was Diana Spencer. And though since she tragically passed away her family has been out of the spotlight, Prince Harry has made attempts in recent years to grow closer to the family. Now, in the fallout of his court case loss in which he failed to win back his publicly funded security from the UK, it seems he's feeling even more vengeful towards his family.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Prince Harry explored ways to adopt his mother's maiden name, Spencer, rather than using his royal last name, which is technically Mountbatten-Windsor (though Meghan Markle recently said on her show, With Love, Meghan, that her last name is Sussex). He reportedly spoke with his uncle, the 9th Earl Spencer, younger brother to the late Princess Diana, but was advised against it.
"They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step," a source close to Harry reported.

Social Media Reactions
This report made headlines on social media, and royal fans were not afraid to let the Prince know how they really feel. "Go ahead Harry," one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Take the commoner last name and get rid of the titles. Live in privacy and never associate with the Royal Family you hate so much!"
"Harry would do anything to attract publicity and spite his father," another user tweeted. "Changing his name was the last try, and asking the Spencer's approval, which he knew wouldn't be successful, was a safe maneuver. Harry would be afriad to lose any more connections to the king."
"If Princess Di's name sells why not use it...Harry and Meghan are on the brink of extinction," another user wrote. "I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to monetize it."
