The drama between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, is even worse than we may have thought after things in UK court did not go his way.
The prince recently sat down with BBC for a bombshell interview following his loss in court, where his appeal to a previous ruling that declared his publicly-funded security would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, making it “impossible” for him to return to the UK from California. He told the network that the legal issue had led to his father, King Charles III, not speaking to him, which he hopes will change one day. Read more about the intense royal family drama below.
On Friday, May 2nd, the Duke of Sussex sat down for a tell-all interview with the BBC to give a more in-depth answer about his feelings regarding his latest legal drama. After stepping back from his royal duties and moving to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, it was decided by the UK’s Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures that Prince Harry would no longer receive public-funded security protection during his visits home to the UK.
The ruling was quite intense and made it so that his security needs would be assessed on a case-to-case basis. Wanting to one day be able to visit his home country but worried for his family’s safety, he submitted an appeal, which the court rejected on May 2nd after they found the initial decision wasn’t unlawful.
When the 40-year-old spoke with Nada Tawfik from the BBC in his California home just a few hours later, he told his interviewer that the court’s decision “devastated” him.
“[I’m] pretty gutted about the decision,” said Harry.”It certainly has proven that there was no way to win this through the courts. [I] wish somebody had told me that beforehand.”
When asked if he and his family would be able to return to the UK one day, he responded, “For the time being, it’s impossible for me to take my family back to the UK safely.”
The prince also stated that the decision was a difficult one to take, given that he “can never escape” his title and identity as a member of the royal family. He also admitted to missing his brother and other relatives and being able to spend time in the UK, noting that the core of the drama is a “family dispute.”
“It makes me really, really, sad,” he admitted.
