Concerned About Your Privacy? Tech Experts Recommend Switching Off These 2 iPhone Location Settings

Your iPhone might be your trusted sidekick and the device that helps with organizing your life, capturing your memories, and keeping you connected. But it also knows a lot about you. One of the biggest privacy concerns is your location. From apps quietly tracking your movements to services logging where you’ve been, sharing your location (even unintentionally) can open the door to everything from targeted ads to potential security risks. That’s why it’s so important to take control of your privacy settings and be smart about what you’re sharing. Here are two location settings to adjust in order to keep your location private.

1. Location Services

Location Services is the master switch for all the apps and system features that use your location. To turn it off, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and toggle the switch at the top. Disabling this will stop most apps from accessing your location altogether. While it may limit some features (like Maps), it gives you the highest level of privacy by preventing apps from tracking your movements in the background.

2. Share My Location

If you’ve ever shared your location with friends or family through Messages or Find My, it stays on until you turn it off. To do that, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location, and switch it off. This stops your location from being shared in real time with people or devices — even if you forgot you had it enabled. It’s a great way to gain back some privacy and ensure you're not being tracked unintentionally (or by someone you no longer want to share that info with).
