A MUA Shares The 'Secret' Eyeliner Hack Pros 'Don’t Want You To Know': 'Perfect Every Single Time'

When your eyeliner comes out perfectly, the rest of your makeup look steps into line — that’s the unique power of this one makeup product that can open your eyes and give your entire face a lift. But when you have an eyeliner misstep, it isn’t shy about letting you know. Eyeliner is easy to get wrong, and once you do make eyeliner mistakes, it’s difficult to clean up (especially if you’ve already put on your concealer, foundation, and other makeup products).

That’s why makeup artist “Billie Blonde” created a YouTube video that promises to teach you the “secret” eyeliner hack “pros don’t want you to know.” Making this one easy switch in how you apply eyeliner can actually get you a “perfect” application “every single time.”

If this sounds too good to be true, grab a hand mirror (or any mirror that you can position below your face), your favorite eyeliner pen, and let’s get started. Eyeliner greatness is a few steps away.

1. Do Your Eye Makeup First

The first important step toward getting your eyeliner perfect is to make it the first step in your makeup routine. We often think the right way to apply makeup is to first put on our foundation,  concealer, and blush before tackling our eyes. But if you do that, every mistake you make with your eye makeup is going to drip right down to your face and you’ll have to remove your concealer and foundation in those areas and re-apply it. This is a more inefficient way to apply makeup. Leave foundation and concealer until last and start with your eyes.

2. Place a Mirror Below Your Face

If you are looking straight ahead into a mirror while applying your eyeliner, you aren’t going to benefit from as easy an application as you would by simply placing a hand mirror below your face and looking downward, according to Billie Blonde. This allows you to apply liner with your eyes open, and that lets you see how it will look in a more accurate way.

3. Use a Liquid Eyeliner Pen

You may already have your favorite eyeliner tool and aren’t willing to switch — and that’s okay. But if you are open to changing what you use, Billie Blonde recommends a liquid eyeliner pen for precise application. Start the pen at the middle of your top lash line and draw a thin line toward the outer lash line. Once you reach the outer corner, consider your eye shape. If you have hooded eyes, a straight line that runs outward is most flattering; almond-shaped eyes benefit more from a wing that is tiled upwards.

4. Clean Up With Micellar Water

Mistakes will happen, no matter how careful you are with eyeliner. Have micellar water and a thin Q-Tip ready. These products allow you to make corrections to a messy liner job without interrupting the entire line.

Eyeliner doesn’t have to be your most dreaded makeup application task. Try these steps to simplify how you apply eyeliner for a gorgeous look.
