Slow iPhone? Tech Experts Recommend Deleting These 2 Apps

Why is your iPhone slowing down (yet again)? While it’s possible your phone’s battery needs to be replaced or your device is just plain old, there’s an even greater chance that some of the apps you have installed and frequently use are creating massive delays any time you try to browse the internet or download files. The simplest solution, before you resort to spending money, is to delete these two apps that Tech Expert Nathan Plume, owner of https://techguyguide.com, says could be contributing to a slower iPhone.

Google Maps:

Google Maps is one of the more convenient apps you can have downloaded on your device, but it’s also extremely taxing on your phone. For one thing, it runs in the background, so you do not even need the app open for it to still be running, Plume notes. “This can pressure the iPhone resources causing the iPhone to slow down,” Plume says. “Ensure the app is updated for optimal performance. If you still have performance issues with your iPhone, I would suggest uninstalling the app.”

As a side note, Plume says many people these days use Google Maps for navigation while driving — which can do a number on your battery.

“Having your screen on for long periods of time can cause the phone to overheat, which will throttle the performance of the phone,” he says. “As a solution, try using the navigation with voice only so you do not need to keep the screen on.”

Facebook:

Is it even possible to have a list of apps you should delete for better phone performance without mentioning Facebook? Not only can the Facebook app slow down your iPhone, running in the background sending and receiving data,” Plume says. “It also will use your data allowance in doing so. If you are on a limited data plan, this could be an additional worry you could do without.”

If you need Facebook to feel connected, consider deleting the apps and accessing the site via your browser to save battery power.

Other battery culprits

In addition to deleting these two battery-sucking apps, Plume points out three additional reasons your iPhone may be slower than usual and what you can do about them.

Remove unused apps: “If storage is near full, I would suggest deleting any unused apps first to free up storage space on the phone,” Plume says. “When storage is full or nearly full, this can cause an iPhone to slow down.”

Keep apps updated: Developers will push out updates to improve their app’s performance — these can include bug fixes and optimizations for the apps, Plume says — but you can only benefit from these upstates if you stay on top of updating your device.

Overheating: “Summer is approaching and I usually find people underestimate how heat can affect their device’s performance,” Plume says. “If you are in your garden or down the beach and leave your phone in direct sunlight, this will make your phone hot and the iPhone is designed to throttle its performance when it overheats. It can even power itself off until the device is cooled if too hot. Keep the phone in the shade or in a bag so it’s not exposed to direct sunlight.”
