Can you reduce wrinkles? It’s a question many of us wonder as we age and search for ways to improve our skin and keep it looking as healthy as possible. Aging will bring about skin changes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t age well and take good care of your complexion. In addition to investing in quality serums and moisturizers (and maybe visiting a dermatologist to get medical-grade products like retinol or consider laser treatments), paying close attention to our diet is an important, and often neglected way, that you can make a big difference in your skin.

The majority of supplements that are recommended for your skin can be acquired through a balanced, thoughtful diet that includes plenty of quality protein sources, vegetables, and fruits. Obtaining nutrients from foods is always the best option, too. But if you fear you aren’t getting what you need from diet alone, talk to your doctor about whether it’s a good idea to incorporate supplements into your regiment. Here are three “great” supplements that may be effective in reducing wrinkles.

collagen-peptides

1. Collagen Peptides

Of all the supplements on this list, it might be the most challenging to get collagen peptides from food — though it’s not impossible. Foods like bone broth, chicken skin, and fish skin and bones contain it in abundance. Doesn’t sound like your favorite food? A collagen peptide supplement may help bridge that gap to replace some of the collagen that we naturally lose as time goes by. This can be taken as a powder or capsule and is broken down into more easily digestible components than you may get from food sources.

vitamin-c

2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is required to help create new, healthy collagen. Vitamin C also helps regulate genes involved in collagen synthesis, so it can have an influence on how much collagen your body produces. Luckily, it’s very unusual to have a vitamin C deficiency, given how prevalent this nutrient is in many foods. You’ll find vitamin C in citrus fruits, red bell peppers, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, and more.

fish-oil

3. Fish Oil

Fish oil has high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. It is excellent for adding hydration to your skin, reducing inflammation, and protecting against UV damage. And all of these things help your skin look naturally more youthful. You can get fish oil from wild salmon and sardines, but many people take a fish oil supplement to make sure they’re getting enough of this nutrient.
