The Rock's Instagram Account 'Likes' Shady Post Criticizing Taylor Swift's Talent
According to reports, Dwayne's official Instagram account appeared to have 'liked' a video posted by Instagram account @therealebjohnson criticizing Taylor's singing abilities and comparing her to artists who can "actually sing," including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Amy Winehouse.
The video featured clips of several performances, including Taylor singing "Shake It Off" with, to quote the post, "no backing shenanigans." It then showed clips of the aforementioned singers showcasing their vocal abilities, including Winehouse performing "Back to Black" and Houston singing "Home."
The post was captioned: "She's not a good singer. She's not a good dancer. She's not a good songwriter. So what is she? If not a carefully crafted fake?"
"THANK YOU for speaking truth about Taylor Swift!" exclaimed one person in the comments. "I've always felt like I'm taking crazy pills when people rave about her—I never could see what the [expletive] hype was about," they continued.
"Thank you for saying this. I always thought she was awful. I never understood the hype," echoed a second, as a third said: "Ugh such AMAZING talent. Swifties must be the most boring, lame [expletive] people." "The truth, only the truth, she is talentless," slammed a fourth.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Has Publicly Supported Taylor Swift For Years
It's particularly puzzling why The Rock's account would appear to like such a negative post, given his longstanding friendship with Taylor and his history of publicly praising her music.
Just last year, he appeared on Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast and had nothing but good things to say about the singer. He also gushed about her kindness after she helped him secure tickets to her sold-out Eras Tour for a close friend.
Back in 2015, he famously performed Taylor's "Shake It Off" during a Lip Sync Battle performance, which was a huge hit with the crowd. A few years later, he even voiced the male character in her music video for "The Man."
And that's not all! In 2022, Taylor's re-recorded songs "Bad Blood (Taylor's Version)" and "Message in a Bottle (Taylor's Version)" were featured in the animated movie DC League of Super-Pets, in which Johnson voiced Krypto the Super-Dog. Taylor even publicly thanked him for supporting her re-recorded music at the time.
In 2024, Johnson also described Taylor as "the biggest star" in the world, making his account's apparent endorsement of the critical Instagram post even more surprising.
Taylor Swift Fans Say They're 'Extremely Disappointed' By The Rock's Apparent Instagram Like
Fans were extremely vocal on social media after discovering the apparent like, with many expressing disappointment over what they perceived as a surprising change in Johnson's attitude toward the singer and wondering whether it was an accidental slip of the thumb...
"Did not expect that from Dwayne Johnson... I am extremely disappointed in him especially how he seemed to be supportive and included in her career... maybe it was an accident," wrote one fan on X.
"Like how do you lip sync to her song, be in a music video, ask for her to release (before it was out) Bad Blood Taylor's Version so it could be included in your movie without using the stolen version at that time... to this...?" asked a second, in agreement.
A third, however, thought the like may have been unintentional, writing: "I'm pretty sure it would have been an accident. He's not that kind of person. Always positive." "Learned the hard way that guys who act super supportive in public are usually doing something totally different when the cameras aren't on them," commented a fourth.
"Probably hurt because she invited every influential Hollywood person to her wedding... and forgot all about him," speculated a fifth, as a sixth asked: "Is he hurt he didn't get invited to the wedding?"
Others weren't convinced that the like was accidental, with a seventh saying: "The 'maybe it was an accident' clause is doing overtime." An eighth agreed: "The 'maybe it was an accident' energy is very generous of you honestly."
