Taylor Swift On Her Breakups During The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn were together for around six years, meeting first in 2016 but not publicly announcing their relationship until 2017. They kept their relationship very private and were rarely spotted in public together, and their breakup was just as quiet: Entertainment Tonight was the first to report the couple had split in early April 2023, with People confirming shortly afterward.

A few months after her breakup from Joe, rumors started coming out surrounding a potential relationship with Matty Healy, the lead singer of the band The 1975. Healy even attended one of her Eras Tour shows and they were spotted out in New York a few times, though the fling didn't last very long and reports of their breakup came in June 2023.

Until now, the only time Taylor ever commented on her breakups was through her music, with many fans speculating that various songs on her album The Tortured Poets Department were about Joe and Matty. In episode four of The End of an Era, though, Taylor opened up about what it was like to go through two breakups while performing night after night on the biggest stage in the world.

"There were points in this tour when the tour was really the only thing that was really keeping me going in my life," she admitted. "But there were never points in the tour where I thought, 'Oh, you know what? I want to quit the tour 'cause the tour's hard.' No, my personal life was hard," she explained. "I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour, and that's a lot of breakups actually."

"The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed. So the tour has never been the hard thing in my life," she continued. "The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the s*** that was going wrong in my life."

"Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will," she added.

Social Media Reactions

Fans were quite excited to hear Taylor's perspective on what it was really like to perform night after night in front of thousands of people while also dealing with heartache, and were particularly excited by her final admission: "One of the best things she has ever said!" one fan wrote on TikTok.

"I need that embroidered on a pillow!" another fan said.

"She is the best role model for women," a third fan said.

"This has to be made into a shirt, a mug, bumper sticker!" another fan said, "Best quote ever!"

"She knew this line was going to be iconic," one person commented.

"The Eras Tour AND Taylor have yet to let me down!" a final fan said.
