Everyone thinks that the secret to younger-looking skin lies in a fancy moisturizer or serum, but the truth is that it all comes to your diet. Dermatologists say it’s important to follow a nutrient-rich diet to ensure that your skin is getting the vitamins and minerals it needs to be healthy. Not getting the right nutrients from your diet? It may be time to consider a daily supplement. Experts suggest taking an omega-3 fish oil supplement because of its ability to delay wrinkles and promote radiant skin. In fact, some call it the best supplement for younger-looking skin! Keep scrolling to find out how an omega-3 supplement benefits those with mature skin:

Fish oil supplements contain two very important omega-3 fatty acids: Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Dermatologist Doris Day, MD, of Health.com, says that they work together to strengthen the cell membrane and improve the quality of your skin.

"DHA keeps the brain functioning properly. And EPA greatly benefits the skin by regulating oil production to boost hydration and prevent acne, and by delaying the skins aging process to stave off wrinkles," she explains.

She notes that studies show that EPA has been found to play a crucial role in protecting our skin from UV ray-induced damage and photoaging. "Because EPA is both an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory agent, it can protect against sun damage and help repair it," Dr. Day continues.

Dr. Day suggests taking an omega-3 fish oil supplement that contains 180 milligrams of EPA and 120 milligrams of DHA three times a day with each meal. She also recommends incorporating fatty fish into your diet to get more omega-3 fatty acids.

"Most of us don't get enough omega-3s in our diets. Oily fish like herring, mackerel, salmon, anchovies, and tuna are the best sources so it's a good idea to take a supplement," she explains.
