Most people know that taking care of your skin involves establishing a healthy skincare routine and lots of sunscreen. However, another crucial factor in the appearance of your skin is your diet. Drinking a lot of water and sticking to healthy foods can help improve the look of your skin and ward off signs of aging.
Keep reading for the one food you should cut out asap cause it can make you look older than you are!
Processed Meats
Processed meats, like sausage, bacon, and deli meats, can lead to some major signs of aging if you aren't careful.
Ariel Ostad, MD, fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, explains to Health, "Many of these meats have sulfites and other preservatives, which can trigger inflammation in the skin, and accelerate the appearance of aging."
Additionally, many of these meats are high in salt, which presents another problem for your skin.
Ranella Hirsch, MD, former president of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery, and dermatologist practicing in Massachusetts, told Health about the effect of sodium. She explains, "[S]odium ... can make you retain water and cause a 'puffy' look."
Processed meats are a dangerous addition to any diet and can lead to an array of health problems besides affecting your skin, including chronic health conditions. Eating processed meats is associated with a higher risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and even bowel and stomach cancer.
With that in mind, keeping these foods in moderation is important for your overall health--not just your appearance.
