The past year has been rife with illness, and Tom Brady experienced firsthand the struggles of seeing a family member grow sick. Earlier this week it was revealed that the 43-year-old football star’s parents were both diagnosed with Covid-19 late last year, and his father was hospitalized for weeks. Thankfully, he has since recovered.

Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr. admitted to ESPN radio earlier this week that it was “a matter of life and death,” and both he and his wife Galynn were “sick as a dog” with the brutal illness. Their son recently began a new chapter in his career, switching from the New England Patriots to now play for the Buccaneers, who he has led towards their first Superbowl appearance since 2002.
Brady Sr. opened up to ESPN, sharing, “For the first two games when I was in the hospital, I didn't even care if they were playing, much less missing the game...It was a matter of life and death, just like anybody who goes to the hospital. That's serious stuff.”
Fortunately, Brady’s mother Galynn was not hospitalized during her battle with Covid and was instead cared for by the couple’s daughter Maureen, who is a nurse. Brady Sr. even admitted to the radio show that while he was in the hospital he missed the only two games ever of his son’s career, as Brady worked towards his 10th Superbowl.
As of January, both Brady Sr. and his wife are healed and settled back at home. “We’re healthy, we’re happy and everything is good,” he shared. We’re sure that’s a relief for Tom as he continues with his first season with the Buccaneers, undoubtedly hoping to bring them a Superbowl victory.
