Meta has become one of the world’s biggest tech companies, but also one of the most controversial, which is considered especially true due to the latest Instagram feature it’s rolling out.

Social media users are furious and panicking after Meta began rolling out its Muse Image feature, which allows users to take another person’s public photos and use them as references for new AI-generated images. This caused many Instagram users to begin expressing anger at the invasive action online, especially those with public profiles. Read more about the situation below.

Meta Rolls Out Muse Image Feature On Instagram

Meta is the tech company name that consists of some of today's leading and biggest social media platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, Threads, etc.

There are so many people around the world who use these social media apps every day, and though it's public knowledge that social media comes with its own unique risks, users often expect their owners to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. However, with Instagram's latest Muse Image tool, many users are feeling anything but safe.

The tool is featured on the Meta AI app, but is largely involved with Instagram, as it gives users the opportunity to scour the platform for images on public profiles and download them to use as a reference image for AI-generated content.

Social Media Users Express Outrage Over The Rolling Out Of Muse Image

In today's tech-driven world, one of the most debated topics is AI or artificial intelligence, and how much it's expanding into everyday life.

Not only are there environmental concerns due to the data centers that help make AI possible, but there are also major ethical concerns regarding it, as there aren't many rules or limitations on what people can make or request.

Therefore, hearing that the Muse AI tool could use pictures from social media profiles without permission to create other things concerned and even outraged many users, to the point where Meta ended up officially calling it off and shutting it down.

"Why does Instagram want to make AI Deepfakes of us but forces us to be upfront about AI content?" asked an Instagram user, pointing out the company's online rules. "They should be upfront about using our faces on their videos!"

"This new AI feature raises some important privacy concerns," added another.

"These apps are out of control," wrote an angry user. "No matter how many class action lawsuits they have to pay out, they continue with the violation of public trust and ethics violations. Clearly, the amount they’re paying out is a drop in the bucket and not steep enough to make an impact."

"How's that?!" asked another. "This is worthy of a class action."
