Lauren Sánchez kept her look effortlessly chic while announcing the Bezos Earth Fund’s latest environmental initiative—but the response online quickly turned critical.

In a new Instagram video, the former journalist appeared outdoors wearing a simple white T-shirt paired with light-wash denim jeans. She styled her brunette hair in loose waves with a side part as she shared details about the organization’s newest investment.

Lauren Sánchez Slammed For Latest Bezos Earth Fund Investment

“Imagine every child growing up with nature just outside their door. That’s the future the Bezos Earth Fund is working on,” she said in the video. “Nature and green spaces are places where communities thrive together. The Bezos Earth Fund is excited to build on its Greening America’s Cities program with a new wave of cities and projects that will turn gray into green. Green cities aren’t just possible—they’re happening one community at a time.”

In the caption, the 56-year-old revealed that the Bezos Earth Fund is investing $100M in eight U.S. cities.

“It’s time to turn more cities from gray to green,” she wrote. “Today, the @bezosearthfund is announcing a $100 million investment in eight U.S. cities to transform underused spaces into parks, gathering places, and green community hubs where people can connect and thrive. Because investing in nature is also an investment in people.”

While many praised the initiative, others questioned whether it was enough given Jeff Bezos’ immense wealth and Amazon’s environmental footprint.

“Is this to cover up the data centers that Amazon does?” one Instagram user asked.

Another commented, “That’s only 0.04% of his worth—not even 1% of his $254 billion fortune. If you’re going to do something, do it well.”

The Internet Reacts

Others argued the focus should remain on protecting existing ecosystems.

“That sounds very nice! But we also need to think about stopping and protecting natural forests like in Amazonia,” one person wrote.

Another added, “Girl, your husband is literally making data centers and killing all of the nature.”

Some commenters were even more skeptical, calling the campaign “Black Mirror” and “dystopian,” while another wrote, “The arrogance… The oligarch tribe pretends to do something for nature.”

Others criticized the public nature of the announcement itself.

“It’s lovely some people give back and do things for people, but there is no need to make a big deal out of it,” one commenter wrote. “There are lots of people around the world who donate millions of dollars privately without the attention.”

Founded by Jeff Bezos in 2020, the Bezos Earth Fund is a $10B philanthropic commitment dedicated to fighting climate change and protecting nature. The organization plans to distribute its funding by 2030, making it one of the world’s largest private climate-focused philanthropies.
