King Charles reportedly reached breaking point and reminded Prince Harry who was calling the shots after his youngest son allegedly made a long list of demands and created “chaos” before his return to the U.K. this month.
Although King Charles and Queen Camilla ultimately reunited with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet during a private meeting at Highgrove House on Friday, July 10th – the King’s first in-person meeting with his youngest grandchildren since 2022 – The Sun reported that the long-awaited reunion came only after days of tension behind the scenes.
According to the publication, Prince Harry made a number of demands ahead of the trip, including his long-running requests for security. The reported tension escalated even further after fresh allegations published by the Mail on Sunday claimed Prince Harry’s team leaked details of the infamous 2025 meeting between Sussex representatives and a senior Palace aide – a leak Buckingham Palace was widely blamed for at the time.

Prince Harry's Offer To Stay At Buckingham Palace Was 'Withdrawn At The Last Moment'
Although King Charles has a reputation for being softer than his late father, Prince Philip, and his heir, Prince William – hence why critics say he allowed disgraced younger brother, ex-Prince Andrew, to get away with so much for so long – it doesn't appear that he is a pushover either.
One issue King Charles reportedly put his foot down over was Prince Harry's accommodation. The King initially invited his younger son to stay at Buckingham Palace during his U.K. trip, but Prince Harry's spokesperson later claimed the offer was "withdrawn" at the last moment.
According to the spokesperson, the palace withdrew the offer because it allegedly didn't think it was appropriate for Prince Harry to stay there while his privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited was ongoing, despite reportedly knowing about the case when the invitation was first made. However, another insider claimed Prince Harry initially turned down the offer before trying to accept it after the palace's deadline had already passed.

King Charles Is 'Not Willing To Be Pushed Around'
Another insider has now claimed that King Charles was being "tested" beyond his endurance by the "chaos" surrounding the visit and was no longer willing to tolerate it.
"The King's patience snapped," the insider told The Sun. "He wants to be a loving father and grandfather but that was being tested beyond endurance." They added: "He is not willing to be pushed around, nor to indulge a constant state of chaos." Still, it's interesting to see that they all put their differences aside to reunite at Highgrove!
The new allegations that Prince Harry's team was responsible for leaking details of last year's private meeting are also said to have done little to improve relations, particularly given Buckingham Palace was widely blamed when news of the meeting first emerged.

'Mail On Sunday' Editor Claims Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Team Leaked Private Meeting
Mail on Sunday Editor-at-Large Charlotte Griffiths, who was among those cleared after Prince Harry and several other high-profile claimants lost their High Court case against Associated Newspapers Limited earlier this week, published a 5,000-word account reflecting on her former friendship with the Spare author.
And one of the most interesting claims is that senior members of Prince Harry and Meghan's communications team allegedly gave her advance notice of a private 2025 meeting between Sussex representatives and a senior Palace aide. Seems like they learned from their past mistakes, as the press didn't know about Friday's Highgrove meeting until after it happened!
"I can now reveal that, during the summer of 2025, a close adviser to Harry and Meghan had contacted me out of the blue and invited me to lunch at the Ivy restaurant in London," Griffiths wrote. She alleged that the information shared during that meeting led to several Mail on Sunday stories that presented the couple "in a positive light."
Neither Buckingham Palace nor the Sussexes have publicly commented on Griffiths' allegations at the time of writing. The family's private Highgrove reunion on Friday has nevertheless raised hopes that relations between the two sides may be improving, despite the latest claims and the recent legal and security disputes.
