Beauty Blogger In Her 50s Shares Viral Concealer Trick To Hide Wrinkled, Dark Under Eyes: 'It's Like Night and Day!''

Concealer on the under-eye area after age 50 can be a problem.

At the same time as your skin may be thinning more and showing signs of aging like dark circles, fine lines, and creases, you may think that the natural fix for your skin woes is to apply as much concealer as you can possibly use to mask discoloration. And that’s when you find out pretty quickly that all of that makeup sinks into the texture in your skin — including fine lines and crow’s feet — and can amplify things you’re trying to conceal.

The problem could be that you are using concealer the wrong way — and expecting too much of it.

According to beauty blogger Kellie Ann, who is 54, this is the best concealer trick to hide wrinkles and dark under eyes.

Swap Concealer for Color Corrector

Concealer isn’t the same product as color corrector, and the two should be used in different ways to combat dark circles under the eyes. Investing in a color corrector palette is a great idea — they generally come with a few different shades including peach, purple, and green tones. Kellie Ann demonstrates how she uses a dual-sided brush with pointier bristles on one side. She dips the pointy end into a peach-toned color corrector and dabs the areas of discoloration under her eyes to cover it. You can see pretty quickly that the color counters her darkness.

Blur Your Makeup

After you’ve applied the color corrector, use the fluffier side of your makeup brush to blur your makeup so that it blends in with your skin. Kellie Ann explains that there’s nothing wrong with using concealer under the eyes, but that concealer is generally lighter and doesn’t always sit well on mature skin.

After Kellie Ann finishes applying color corrector under her eyes to conceal circles, she then applies her other makeup, she says — which, for you, may mean a little concealer to brighten the area, foundation for an even skin tone, and translucent powder to set your makeup. “It’s like night and day,” she exclaims, showing the (major) difference between one made-up under eye and one that isn’t made up.

If you’re looking for a different technique to brighten your eyes and help make them stand out, try swapping concealer for color corrector and addressing the tones of discoloration.
