Viral TikTok claims Walmart will start charging a dollar for carts
The uproar started when TikTok user @soulforgepodcast posted a video in which he said “Starting Feb. 1, Walmart is going to charge you a dollar to take out their carts.” The video captured a Walmart cart that did, in fact, appear to require $1 to be used. However, it’s important to note that even in Canada, where this is the case, the dollar is only used as a deposit that is then refunded to the customer after they return the cart. Think Aldi’s quarter. Not too unreasonable!
Commenters, however, were not happy. While a few pointed out the fact that the dollar would be returned, others were up in arms. “I won’t be shopping there anymore,” one wrote.

Walmart’s corporate communications team confirmed to Snopes that “the clip is from a Walmart Canada store and is a common practice among many Canadian retailers,” and there is no evidence to support any claims that it will happen in the U.S.
