Beauty is pain and all that, but it can actually be a little fun and inventive. Makeup connoisseurs will do whatever it takes to get the perfect blend of foundation, concealer, highlighter, and whatever else they decide to stick on their faces that makes them look fabulous. We’ve resorted to using sponge-like beauty blenders, on our faces, so there’s no telling what the future of blending will hold. So far, though, we’ve seen some makeup artists pull out some weird stops to get the perfect look. Check out four of the most random tools beauty darlings have tried—and had luck with—to blend their foundation.

Condom

Yes, you read that right—apparently condoms have a role outside the bedroom. Beauty YouTuber Sylvia Gani tested out blending her makeup with a condom over her beauty blender, which has apparently become a viral beauty trend of sorts. Who knew women would resort to wiping condoms on their faces!? We sure didn't. If you plan to try this, make sure you wash off the condom first! Be warned: it will make a freaky sound when you dab your foundation with it, but it's actually pretty effective. There seems to be a method to the madness.

Kitchen Sponge

This one doesn't seem as odd since beauty blenders are essentially mini sponges. But putting a kitchen item on your face just feels so wrong. Beauty vlogger Lauren Blake Lucia took a rectangular sponge and cut it into a teardrop-shape, similar to a beauty blender. The different edges of the sponge made it easy for her to blend all areas of her face.

Hard Boiled Egg

If you thought the condom was weird, just wait. Beauty YouTuber PopLuxe debuted this trend in March and, naturally, beauty gurus had to take this one out for a spin. It did work much better than PopLuxe expected, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Brace yourself for an unwelcome egg odor and potential egg flakes caked into your face. Oh, and the egg could break, so have a few backups on hand.

Sock

And, finally, another item you would never want to put anywhere near your face: a sock. Instagram user @myratouchofglam busted out a sock, twisted and folded it into a ball-shape, and dabbed away at her foundation. Apparently, this method doesn't absorb as much foundation as products like beauty blenders, so you waste less product. This should be a given, but make sure you use a clean sock if you try this one at home. We're slightly still in shock about all the products beauty fans have tried, and even more shocked none of them led to major breakouts.
